Yoga for Kindergartens

This would be a great experience for me to share to you all. My experience of teaching yoga for a semester in a kindergarten: Sekar Harapan Kindergartens, manage by Humanisti Foundation, in Jombang, Ciputat, Tangerang, Indonesia.

About Sekar Harapan Kindergartens

This kindergartens establish few years ago. The humanisti foundation dedicate this kindergartens for pupils have no budget to school. So the pupils study free payment, all fund become responsibility of the foundation. Parents of the pupils working as scavengers, labor, maid, driver. By study here, parents fell relieve.

The curriculum almost the same as other kindergartens. But since 2012, they add Yoga in to the curriculum. So here I am J

Yoga and Therapy Programs

My background in Yoga more than 13 years and as acupuncturist couple of years. So when I  decide to teach here, I give attention to the yoga materials related to Health.

Every once a month me and our clinic team, check health of each pupil. After that, we give them therapy, which is massage and acupressure. Few of them get acupuncture.

Another program we create is Children Therapy Training for parents. How to give therapy to their own children. The material such as how to circulate the meridians, acupressure points, etc.

Health of Pupils at Beginning Semester

In Yoga class, at first month to second months I teaches, pupils have condition :

·         Body low flexibility.

·         Lots complain when doing asanas yoga.

·         Not really focus in session.

·         Few of pupil’s body posture not straight stand up.

Result of health check analysis at first to second month:

·         Most of pupil cough and flu, easy to contracting one another.

·         Low immunity.

·         5 vital organs (lungs, kidney, lever, heart, spleen), their meridian most are unbalance.

·         Half of the pupils have unbalance digestion system.

·         Some of them have disease genetically, such as shortness breathing, itchy skin.

The positive thing already have by the pupils :

·         Great confidence, even they came from the lower economy family.

 

Materials of Yoga

·         Smile. To create energy of happy and smile from beginning to end of yoga session.

·         Thanks to body, mind, soul.

·         Thanks to the sun give energy to earth and galaxy

·         Thanks to our 5 vital organs (lungs, kidney, lever, heart, spleen).

·         The asanas which appropriate to their cute body. Asanas taken form nature philosophy, such as bamboo posture, bamboo blew by the wind, butterfly posture, cow posture, dog posture, lotus posture, lotus blooming posture. The sequence of Sun Salutation and Moon Salutation.

·         Breathing technique, the simple one.

·         How to recycle negative energy into positive energy of 5 vital organs (lungs, kidney, lever, heart, spleen) by its color, sound, spiral movement.

Health Check and Therapy by our team :

·         Check health condition of each pupil.

·         Give them all therapy such as acupressure, massage.

·         Share the herb recipe to the parents. Such as boiled turmeric water add brown sugar for stomach health. Coconut water to clean the lungs, etc.

Children Therapy Training for the parents

We share the parents how to therapy their children. The materials are :

·         Technique to circulate the meridians of body children

·         Acupressure body points

·         Massage for children

·         How to acupressure

·         How to recycle energy negative into positive energy after giving therapy.

·         Bath salt regularly to release the stiffness and negative energy.

The benefit routine therapy for children

We suggest the parents to give their children therapy once in a week.  This is result good effect such as :

·         Increasing immune system of the children

·         Lowering the rate of flu and cough

·         Children feel the comfortable when parents directly give them therapy

·         Increasing the emotional relation between parents and children

·         A natural way to maintain children health at their own family

 

Progress of the Pupils, Mid – End Semester

In Yoga Class

·         Pupils body much flexible

·         They ask for more challenging asanas

·         No complain, but enjoy doing each session

·         Body posture become straight when stand up

·         Very focus when doing breathing technique

·         Very focus in session recycle negative energy into positive energy of 5 vital organs

·         Stronger Connectivity between pupils and me

·         Stronger connectivity between pupils and nature (wind, sun light, butterfly)

Health Check Analysis

·         Rare having flu and cough

·         Their digestion system much better

·         Their 5 vital organs meridians balance

·         Some were looked thinner become bigger and taller

·         They already conscious of health, so not buy food/junk food outside home and school

·         The genetic illness of them become disappear

·         Great connectivity between parents and children (because parents give routine therapy to the children).

The experience I don’t get in adult yoga class

In this kindergartens class, I fell easier to share the materials. Ha ha ha perhaps they just like white paper, no dogma, no mind. They are free to do each asanas and simple doing the breathing technique. I enjoy looking at them. So beautiful.

At some session, sometime me and the foundation management  (she like to visit our class), become amazed seeing the connectivity of this children with nature. Let me try to share. There is bamboo posture. Than bamboo left and right moving cause of the wind blow. I told the pupils : Lets blew together. Doing this asanas couple of times, than we are feel the wind really blew, even blowing the trees around the area. The nature elements very connected with the children.

Our class begin 7.30 am. The sun directly shines the light at our window. So we say thank to the sun cause give the light energy to us, to earth, to universe. After saying it, the sun light in a very shine but comfortable ray in our eyes. Its amazing !

One asanas is butterfly posture. I said to them, what color butterfly do want? They said : I’m yellow, me brown, I’m white, me black, I’m green. Class becomes noisy. Than together we be as a caterpillar change in to butterfly. Than suddenly there are some butterfly entering our class thru our window. Pupils happy and yelling : it’s the butterfly, butterfly in our class, hurray!

Class full of happy of these children. I just amazed and my mouth cant say anything for seconds. When I back realize, I say thanks, and feel all blessed.

Well, that’s my experience in yoga for kindergartens. We get connected in many ways. In nature, movements, breathing, mind, creation. I wish my writing here connect with your heart.

Yoga Taman Kanak-Kanak

Pengalaman saya mengajar Yoga di kelas Taman Kanak-Kanak merupakan hal yang sangat berharga. Kali ini selama 1 semester saya babarkan proses berikut hasil dari mengajar Yoga di TK Sekar Harapan, Jombang, Ciputat, dibawah naungan Yayasan Humanisti.

Sekilas tentang TK Sekar Harapan oleh Yayasan Humanisti

TK Sekar Harapan telah berdiri beberapa tahun lalu. Para murid merupakan anak-anak kurang mampu yang bertempat tinggal di sekitar TK. Mereka mendapat pengajaran seperti layaknya anak-anak TK lain, namun biaya pendidikan gratis. Semua ditanggung oleh Yayasan. Orang tua para murid ini bekerja sebagai tukang ojek, pemulung, tukang cuci pakaian, dll.

Materi pendidikan dan pengajaran layaknya TK yang lain. Namun sejak semester lalu (th ajaran 2012-2013), disisipkan materi Yoga untuk Anak-Anak. Saya yang memberi ide kepada manajemen yayasan dan saya yang mengajar.

Yoga Anak dan Terapi Anak

Background saya lebih dari 13 tahun di dunia Yoga. Juga akupunkturis beberapa tahun belakangan ini. Karena itu saya memberi perhatian para para murid dengan materi-materi yoga yang bertujuan untuk Kesehatan.

Selain itu setiap sebulan sekali, saya dan tim dari klinik akupunktur saya, mengecek kesehatan masing-masing anak dan menerapi masing-masing anak.

Para orang tuapun kami beri training bagaimana memberi terapi anak. Materinya tentang membuka jalur meridian tubuh secara sederhana. Dan totok pada anak. Lebih lanjut dijabarkan pada topik berikutnya dibawah.

Kesehatan Anak pada Awal Semester

Bulan pertama-kedua saya mengajar, anak-anak memiliki kondisi :

  • Kurang fleksibilitas tubuh
  • Banyak mengeluh saat melakukan asanas
  • Kurang fokus saat yoga
  • Postur tubuh ada yang kurang tegak

Pengecekan kesehatan oleh Tim kami di bulan kedua-ketiga:

  • Sebagaian besar pilek dan batuk, silih berganti
  • Gampang tertular penyakit
  • 5 organ vital (paru-paru, ginjal, hati, jantung, limpa) sebagian besar meridiannya tidak seimbang.
  • Separuh sistem pencernaan anak-anak tidak bagus (luka di lambung, tidak nafsu makan, suka jajan, tubuh terlalu kurus, dll).
  • Beberapa anak memiliki penyakit turunan dari orang tua, seperti sesak nafas, gatal kulit.

Hal positif yang sudah dimiliki anak-anak :

  • Percaya diri yang tinggi, walaupun berasal dari keluarga tidak mampu

Materi Yoga Anak:

  • Senyum pencerahan. Menciptakan energi riang gembira dari awal hingga akhir yoga.
  • Terima Kasih pada Tubuh, Pikiran, Jiwa. Terima kasih pada matahari pemberi energi semesta, surya. Terima Kasih pada 5 organ vital (paru-paru, ginjal, hati, jantung, limpa).
  • Asanas-asanas yang sesuai tubuh anak-anak dan mengambil filosofi alam. Seperti gerakan bambu tertiup angin, kupu-kupu, sapi, kambing, kuda, surya namaskar, candra namaskar, menjadi bunga teratai kuncup dan mekar, dll
  • Teknik pernafasan sederhana.
  • Mendaur ulang energi negatif pada 5 organ vital menjadi energi positif (warna organ, suara organ, gerakan spiral)

Sesi Terapi Anak oleh Tim Kesehatan Kami:

  • Mengecek kesehatan masing-masing anak
  • Memberi terapi totok pada semua anak

Memberi resep herbal sederhana pada orang tua untuk anaknya. Seperti : rebusan kunyit iris + gula aren untuk kesehatan lambung, rebusan temulawak iris + gula aren untuk kesehatan limpa dan nafsu makan, air kelapa muda untuk kesehatan organ paru, dll.

Pelajaran Terapi Anak pada Orang Tua (ibu) :

  • Teknik membuka dan melancarkan jalur-jalur meridian pada tubuh anak
  • Cara memotok anak
  • Mengerti letak titik – titik totok anak
  • Meluruhkan energi negatif pada ibu dan anak dengan mandi air garam. Ini penting agar tidak terjadi kontaminasi energi negatif pada terapis (ibu). Mandi garam juga dapat dilakukan anak dan seluruh anggota keluarga, untuk meluruhkan capek, pegal, bakteri dan segala energi negatif yang menempel pada kulit tubuh.

Tujuan terapi anak secara rutin :

  • Mengajarkan agar orang tua memberi terapi pada anaknya seminggu sekali (apapun kondisi kesehatan anak).
  • Agar meningkatkan daya imun tubuh sehingga mengurangi timbulnya penyakit
  • Memberi kenyamanan pada anak langsung dari orang tuanya (ibu)
  • Meningkatkan hubungan emosional baik pada anak-ibu
  • Cara terapi alamiah yang tercipta di lingkungan terdekat anak yaitu keluarga.

Perkembangan Anak-Anak pada Tengah-Akhir Semester

Yoga

  • Jauh lebih fleksibel dalam melakukan asanas
  • Tidak mengeluh saat asanas. Semua dilakukan dengan ceria, riang gembira
  • Meminta asanas yang lebih menantang (sudah berani tekuk tekuk yang fleksibel).
  • Postur tubuh lebih tegak, proporsional
  • Fokus sekali saat sesi pernafasan
  • Fokus saat mendaur ulang 5 organ vital
  • Koneksifitas lebih erat antara saya dengan anak-anak, juga guru pendamping
  • Konektifitas energi yang erat dengan alam, seperti angin, sinar matahari, kupu-kupu.

Kesehatan

  • Jarang pilek dan batuk, bisa dihitung jari
  • Sistem pencernaan menjadi baik
  • 5 organ vital, jalur mediriannya nampak lancar
  • Beberapa anak yang tadinya kurus, mulai bertambah berat badannya
  • Anak-anak sadar akan kesehatan dirinya, sehingga tidak minta jajan lagi.
  • Penyakit turunan nampak berkurang pada kesehatan anak
  • Konektifitas erat antara anak dan ibu (karena ibu rutin memberi terapi anak).

Hal-hal yang tidak saya temui pada kelas-kelas yoga dewasa

Di kelas anak-anak ini, ternyata lebih mudah mengajarkan materi yoga, seperti asanas maupun teknik pernafasan pada anak. Nampaknya kepolosan anak dan minimnya dogma, membuat anak-anak ini lebih lepas bebas dalam melakukan asanas dan pernafasan.

Saya dan ibu pembina yayasan sering takjub melihat konektifitas anak-anak ini pada alam. Beberapa asanas melibatkan tak hanya gerakan, namun diiringi nafas inhale/exhale. Baik yang dihembuskan oleh hidung maupun mulut. Misalnya gerakan tumbuhan bambu yang tertiup angin ke kanan dan ke kiri. Baru beberapa gerakan, langsung angin ikut mengiri asanas kami. Bahkan pepohonan disekitar bergoyang ikut ditiup angin. Unsur alam terbukti langsung terhubung dengan anak-anak polos ini.

Kelas kami dimulai pukul 7.30 wib. Tepat matahari bersinar di depan ruang dan halaman kami latihan yoga. Kami memberi rasa terima kasih pada matahari. Dan tak beberapa lama, matahari menyinari kami dengan terang namun lembut. Sangat menakjubkan!

Salah satu asanas yaitu membentuk tubuh seperti kepompong, lalu berubah menjadi kupu-kupu cantik dan terbang. Sebelumnya saya bertanya, kalian mau jadi kupu-kupu warna apa? Anak-anak menjawab kuning, merah, hitam, hijau, warna-warni. Mulailah asanas ini. Beberapa kali kami ulangi agar posenya dapat. Tak beberapa lama anak-anak berteriak dengan riuh :”Bu….kupu-kupu!” “Itu kupu-kupu masuk kelas” “Cakep”.

Ya..seisi kelas riuh gembira. Beberapa kupu-kupu masuk dari kisi-kisi atas jendela ke dalam kelas kami.  Wow! Saya hanya melongo dan saat sadar mengucap puji syukur.

Begitulah pengalaman saya di kelas yoga anak-anak TK Sekar Harapan, Yayasan Humanisti. Agar bisa diambil manfaatnya.

Meditation is called “Dyana” means the flow of thoughts. When one’s thoughts flow smoothly without a hitch, fully integrated in the mind of the Cosmic Consciousness, then the state is a state of pure and profound.
Someone who is just learning meditation, only able to do for some minutes. But with meditation techniques and constant practice, it will gradually reach the thoughts and feelings of the noble and pure. Once again this is not a theory, but must be experienced by the practitioners of yoga.

Brain Waves
The brain consists of millions of nerve cells which create so many small of energy, subtle emit electromagnetic waves which vary according to circumstances. Brain waves can be detected with EEG electrode machine (electroencephalogram), which receives and records the rhythm of the waves in the form of graphs.

Scientists found that different brain waves according to one’s level of consciousness:

  • Beta Waves
    Found in a normal state-anxiety. Irregular fast rhythm of 13 or more rounds per second
    Conditions at the beginning of meditation is like this.
  • Alpha Wave
    In a tranquil and peaceful state of full consciousness. Rhythm of about 8 rev / sec. Although the mind in a state of calm, but not weak or passive, even in a state of mind fully conscious. Telepathy or the achievement of current creative inspiration.
  • Theta and Delta Waves
    Gradually, during deep meditation, could achieve higher consciousness, brain waves are very slow. Rhythms 4 rev / sec. In these circumstances obtained by the visions of creativity. Even the past, present and future could be seen.
    Then when the wave reaches the Delta (rhythm 1 round / sec), then the steady state is reached. All movements of the universe and the mind seem stalled entirely. There was no difference in distance, space and time. Yogi has been integrated into infinity with the Supreme Consciousness.

The things which support meditation:

  • Media such as mantra, the music sounds natural and sacred songs
    Mantra is a sound which is read many times in meditation. Mantra to align the body and over time will bring the mind to higher consciousness
    Sacred songs like Gayatri and natural sound of music will help bring in higher consciousness.
    These media are needed at an early stage. Latter on, Yogi would able to heart their inner voice, the mantra from his/her inside.

  • Pranayama (Breathing Technique)
    Breathing technique in meditation will give comfort to our body and mind. Also some breathing teachnique will improve the chi of the body. These practice will make our body and mind healthier.

  • Room or place
    Space or place of meditation affects the meditation of yoga practitioners. Sacred place, nature (mountain, sea) or meditation area influence the meditator in doing meditation. It make higher consciousness. Special meditation space is needed at an early stage, but this is not the goal of meditation. Because the goal of yoga is when the yogi had discovered and realized that Mosque is our self, Church is our body, the Temple is our self. This stage can be reach while we live as a human being.

  • Enlightenment
    Enlightenment given to his student teacher. In the world, without any Guru which guide us, enlightenment is impossible to achieve. This is part of Raja Yoga. For the principals of yoga and spiritual enlightenment to be achieved. With enlightened consciusness, the student self-evolution has occurred when he/she lived in the world. This will enhance the overall development of the physical self, mental and soul.
